Preparing a site plan
A site plan shows the plot and its buildings from above, existing and proposed. Most planning applications ask for one.
What it usually shows
- The plot boundaries and a north point.
- The existing buildings and the proposed ones, with their dimensions.
- The distances between those buildings and the boundaries.
- Trees kept, removed or planted, and the access.
- Service connections and heights, where required.
- The scale of the drawing.
What Plan² prepares, and what is left to add
Plan² draws the 2D base: boundaries, house, extension, pool or shed, wall dimensions and distances, trees and access. The exported image carries the north arrow.
It does not handle levels, heights or service runs: add them to the image, or have a professional finish the application. Always check the exact documents your local planning authority asks for.
The method
Draw the plot
Take the boundaries from the land registry or your deeds.
Place what exists
Draw the house and outbuildings already there, at their real distance from the boundaries.
Add the project
Draw the extension, shed or pool, then read its dimensions and its distances to the boundaries.
Export and complete
Export the image of the floor, then add heights, services and the notes required.
